  I don't really like to buy off-the-shelf samples from shops for several reasons:
    Prices are sometimes too high, it is possible to find one kilogram of metal for the price asked for one small sample.
    Sometimes, the ampoules for the samples are not very well-made. .
    They rarely offer samples of reactive metals (for example Ca, La, Ce) with pure, oxide-free surfaces. If they do, the price is incredibly high (it is easier for me to make such samples myself).
